Disability Justice Coordinator – Canada Summer Jobs Position
8 weeks, 35 hours per week
$18.20/hour

Job Description:
The Disability Justice Coordinator will work with other Centre staff under the supervision of the Collective to nurture and sustain relations between clients with disabilities and the organization. The role also involves the Disability Justice Coordinator working on the disability justice program of the Centre by critically researching and developing new strategies and resources that work in alignment with the goals and mission of the Centre.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The role involves the Disability Justice Coordinator working on the disability justice program of the Centre by critically researching and developing new strategies and resources that work in alignment with the goals and mission of the Centre.
The following is a list of duties related to new and pre-existing projects at GRCGED. The Disability Justice Coordinator will work to move these projects forward:
• Plan, organize, and evaluate the operations of the centre using a Disability Justice lens.
• Research, source and set up up-to-date adaptive technologies. Source grants for expanding these resources and begin the application processes.
• Provide advice, guidance and support to ensure compliance with accessibility legislation (i.e. Human Rights Code; OHSA; AODA), Centre policies and standards.
• Create social media, blog posts and resources for students with visible and invisible disabilities using a Disability Justice framework to be rolled out during the school year.
• Create social media and blog posts about maintaining healthy relationships in addition to where to find support if students are in living situations that are abusive, dangerous or violent.
• Create social media campaign to support mental wellness to be delivered to university students during the school year.
• Use Canva to design campaigns and use a social media scheduler to roll them out.
• Compile strategies and tools for supporting trans and non-binary people with the bureaucratic aspects of transitioning, and emotionally supporting through this process.
• Host weekly online, in person or hybrid group check-ins with volunteers, staff and regular service users to brainstorm more ways to support students in these changed times and to support one another, peer-to-peer.
• In consultation with permanent staff members, plan and implement Orientation and Dis-Orientation Week activities and events, create promotional materials and assist in the development of informational pamphlets, social media and blog posts.
• In consultation with the Volunteer and Resources Coordinator, create an inventory system for our service and educational pamphlets to ensure timely restocking.
• In collaboration with the Outreach and Organizational Coordinator, research new outreach strategies, and support the creation of a programming plan for the upcoming year.
• Document ways to present GRCGED public education sessions and do outreach to students and professors through Courselink.
• Review our Digital Archiving program and create easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions.
• Work with other Centre staff under the supervision of the collective.
• Attend regular meetings with other staff and collective members regarding on-going projects.

Staffing the Centre
• Answer the phone, respond to phone and email messages, forwarding them as appropriate.
• Welcome Centre users and help them access the services of the Centre.
• In consultation with the Volunteer and Resources Coordinator, provide limited support and direction to volunteers staffing the Centre.
• Check resources in and out of the resource library using library software, shelf reading.
• Regular in-office hours will be established. Work-from-home or off-peak hours can be discussed.
• Some evening and weekend work will be required.
• Maintain an anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-oppressive environment in the Centre.
• Attend regular meetings with other staff and collective members regarding on-going projects.
• Work with other Centre staff under the supervision of the collective.
Minimum Requirements:
• Strong organizational abilities
• Strong communication skills
• Strong connection to Disability Justice
• Exceptional writing and editing for social media campaigns
• Experience in event planning
• Experience working or volunteering in small, specialized libraries
• Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and collectively
• Experience with adaptive technologies
• Lived experience with visible or invisible disabilities is an asset
• Public speaking experience
• Customer service experience
• Experience with both Mac and PC operating systems
• Exceptional Canva experience
• Experience working in an anti-oppressive and/or intersectional workplace
• Ability to work within an anti-oppression framework and within the GRCGED Vision, Basis of Unity and Centre Policies
Student Supervision
The student will be supervised by Collective members designated as staff liaisons. Day-to-day direction may also come from the permanent staff members. The student worker will participate in staff meetings, where they can voice their concerns and discuss priorities.
