Princess Nai and Other Stories Book Review
Princess Nai and Other Stories by Jamal Saeed is a collection of stories written in a Syrian prison where he was a prisoner of conscience for twelve years. Saeed now lives in Kingston, Ontario. He wrote some stories in this collection when he was a prisoner of conscience, some after the Syrian uprising in 2011, and some after landing in Canada. This book contains stories about Saeed’s childhood and what he learned from his family, as well as stories about his arrest and life in prison. Readers should be advised that this book contains themes of imprisonment and political violence. The mix of stories in this book can be difficult to follow and understand at times, but is a good choice if you are looking for a short read about activism and humanitarian crises around the world.
